Dev Diary – Alone – Tribe – Ram

Salutations,

So I started this week by adding a couple of upgrade ideas pertaining to the orc boss – I still haven’t tied them up though – will do a pass for upgrades when I finish the entire mission.

Upgrades for fighting the boss

The first upgrade reduces the amount of reinforcements that are spawned in the throne room when the boss summons them. I still haven’t determined the cost yet, but it should probably be more than just gold – perhaps some equipment.

The second upgrade reduces the impact of the health potion on the boss.

Again, I still haven’t tied them up, so I might change them slightly if they don’t look like they’re working.

And with that done – it was time to start on the first map – breaking through the wall.

As I explained a few weeks ago – depending on which first upgrade is chosen – the first map changes.

Upgrades related to picking the first map

This is the default map – and is going to be the hardest fight. The idea is that the player prefers the combat aspect of the game – they can get a decent fight, but if they’ve focused more on the economic aspect, they can make this fight easier, or skip entirely.

With that said, let’s take a look at the (very work in progress) map:

High Level Screenshot of the ram map

Lots of the map isn’t done yet or is missing – but we can take an early look at what this mission is all about.

In the corner of the map there is a battering ram manned by two tribesfolk. It is your duty to defend the ram until it slowly makes its way to the gate.

The towers will spawn a steady stream of goblins. If there are any goblins within the blue circle around the ram, then it’ll stop. When there are no longer any goblins in that circle, it’ll continue once more.

To stop this level from getting hectic, at the moment there’s no plan to have the ram get destroyed if you fail to clear enemies from it – so the only possible failure is having your health go down to 0.

And that’s it for this week. Next week I plan on continuing this map, making it look nicer, making the goblins spawn, and other such things.

Til then
