Max Holloway pocketed $50,000 in Fight of the Night bonus for his beatdown of Calvin Kattar in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Island 7 show in Abu Dhabi. Kattar was also given extra money for surviving five rounds against the former champion.
Holloway ran through the rising featherweight from the get-go, dominating Kattar on the feet en route to a one-sided unanimous decision, winning on all judges’ scorecards (50-43, 50-43, 50-42).
Performance of the Night checks went to Alessio Di Chirico and Li Jingliang, who scored big upsets in their clashes with Joaquin Buckley and Santiago Ponzinibbio, respectively. Both winners were also paid an extra $50,000.
Di Chirico was paired up against Buckley, who was coming off of back-to-back impressive knockouts in 2020, including his “Knockout of the Year” win over Impa Kasanganay. The Italian stopped the middleweight sensation with a head kick in just over two minutes.
Li welcomed Ponzinibbio back to the octagon for his first time in 26 months, leaving the Argentinian unconscious on the ground with a brutal left hand in the final minute of the opening stanza.
