FURIOUS Catherine Tyldesley said “dark things are going on” after ‘hackers’ took over her friend Amanda Abbington’s Instagram account.
The former Corrie star, 37, claimed the social media site was reading users’ private messages after her actress pal’s account was taken over by a mysterious third party.
Alongside a series of mind blown emojis, Catherine wrote: “We now have no privacy… dark much?! Wtf.”
Another deleted posted on her stories read: “Can anyone help? Anyone else’s Instagram story been taken over by ‘Instagram Support’?
“To shut down someone’s account because of a private DM ruminating lockdown/Covid situations.. are they kidding me?!
“Instagram are reading your DMs guys. Fact. How is nobody questioning any of this?”
Amanda’s account, which is followed by Sheridan Smith, Tamzin Outhwaite and Nadia Sawalha, has had its profile pic replaced with a black Instagram logo.
The bio has also changed to read “Official Instagram Support Personel Mrs. Amanda”, and it links to a Covid support page on Facebook.
Speaking to camera from inside a car, Catherine said she was “getting to the bottom of it” and urged followers to report the account.
She added: “She has lost complete control, whether it’s a bot or a massive absolute f**kwit that’s done it. I don’t know.”
The Instagram mystery comes after Catherine announced her debut play The Ceremony.
The supernatural comedy has been pre-recorded at the Leeds City Varieties Music Hall and will stream for 10 days from December 13.
