The Toyota Hilux is one of the most reliable vehicles money can buy, yet it was recently subjected to a recall over a rather unusual issue.
The company’s Australian arm has announced a recall for a handful of utes locally, as they are missing compliance labels that are mandatory to certify that the vehicles meet the Australian standards. According to Toyota, they should have been fitted during the local processing at the port, something that obviously didn’t happen.
The safety campaign includes only 15 units of the 2020 Hilux, which were put together between June 1 and August 4 this year. Owners will be contacted by the automaker via text message, email or mail to their last known address and phone number, and those with questions on the topic can reach out to their local dealer or the call the official Helpline at 1-800-987-366.
Fitting the compliance label is estimated to take approximately 30 minutes, yet depending on the work schedule of each dealer, Hilux owners might have to make their rides available for a longer period of time.
The pickup truck is available in five trim levels Down Under, named WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rogue and Rugged X. Depending on the chosen variant, they can be had in different body styles, including the cab-chassis single-, extra- and double-cab, and the pick-up extra- and double-cab. Prices vary by state, yet they usually start at around AU$29,000 (US$21,200) for the WorkMate, going up to over AU$74,000 (US$54,100) for the Rugged X.
