Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift, Roddy Ricch win 2020 Apple Music Awards

Rapper Lil Baby is taking home the top honor at the second annual Apple Music Awards, while Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift and Roddy Ricch are also being honored. 

Lil Baby, who topped the charts this year with his sophomore album “My Turn” and reached the No. 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his hit “The Bigger Picture,” was hand-selected by the streaming service’s global editorial team to win artist of the year. 

Taylor Swift was named songwriter of the year after her 2020 album “Folklore” set the record for the most streamed pop album on release day and became the first album of the year to sell more than a million copies. In an Apple Music press release, she thanked listeners for their continued support.

“Winning Songwriter of the Year in any capacity in any year would be so exciting, but I think it’s really special this particular year because songwriting was the one thing that kept me connected to my fans,” Swift said. “It means a lot to me because the way that fans respond to the songs I write, and the emotional exchange, is what has really kept me going this year.” 

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is Apple Music’s breakthrough artist of the year. Her two No. 1 singles, “Savage Remix” featuring Beyoncé and “WAP” with Cardi B, have collectively racked up more than 300 million plays on Apple Music. Her debut album, “Good News,” is due Friday.

Roddy Ricch, whose successful year included a Grammy win, No. 1 album and No. 1 song, won two Apple Music honors that were based on streaming data. His debut album, “Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial,” has been streamed more than 1.5 billion times on the platform and was named top album of the year. His smash hit “The Box” logged more than 460 million Apple Music streams and was crowned top song of the year.

The Apple Music Awards will stream a week-long celebration beginning Dec. 14, featuring performances, fan events, interviews and more, according to Apple.
