The report notes that it’s unclear whether the money-laundering investigation is directly related to Hunter.
Per the report, which cites federal law enforcement and government officials, one document signed by an FBI agent requesting the laptop was designated as an FBI “Receipt for Property” form.
The form reportedly explains the FBI’s connection with John Paul MacIsaac, 44, who is said to have alerted them to the laptop after it was left at his repair shop in April 2019.
News of the laptop became public last week when the New York Post reported on it, as MacIsaac said he also made a copy of the laptop’s hard drive and gave it to Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer.
The document that Fox cites has “272D-BA-3065729” written on it; officials said the “272” refers to money laundering in the bureau.
Sources told Fox News the “BA” in the number means the case was opened in the FBI’s Baltimore field office.
A government official told the outlet: “The FBI cannot open a case without predication, so they believed there was predication for criminal activity.”
“This means there was sufficient evidence to believe that there was criminal conduct.”
Fox News reported that they obtained another subpoena that was sent to MacIsaac to testify before the US District Court in Delaware in December 2019.
“If a criminal case was opened and subpoenas were issued, that means there is a high likelihood that both the laptop and hard drive contain fruits of criminal activity,” an official said.
Last week, the New York Post published an article about a “smoking gun email” Hunter Biden received from Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to Ukrainian gas company Burisma’s board.
Critics of Biden have often tried to attack and question the former VP’s relationship with Ukraine.
Hunter Biden joined the board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma in 2014, around the time Biden was helping conduct the Obama administration’s foreign policy with Ukraine.
President Donald Trump and his supporters have alleged that Biden pushed for the firing of Ukraine’s top prosecutor to protect his son and Burisma from any investigation.
Biden did push for the prosecutor’s firing – but that’s because he was reflecting the official position of not only the Obama administration, but many Western countries and because the prosecutor was seen as “soft on corruption.”
It was reported last week that the FBI is investigating if Hunter’s emails were released to the press as a “Russian disinformation” campaign aimed to bring down Biden.
US intelligence officials reportedly suspected that hacked and forged Burisma emails would be released as an “October Surprise” targeting Biden before Election Day.
The story from the Post claims that Hunter introduced Biden to Pozharskyi, a top executive at the energy firm, less than a year before Biden pushed for Ukraine to fire the prosecutor.
Pozharskyi allegedly said in an email to Hunter in April 2015: “Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together. It’s realty [sic] an honor and pleasure.”
The Biden campaign said they looked over Biden’s schedules from the time “and no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place.”
The Post reported that an email from May 2014 shows Pozharskyi asking Hunter for “advice on how you could use your influence” on the Ukrainian company’s behalf.
After MacIsaac gave a copy of the hard drive’s apparent contents to Giuliani, he then gave a copy of the hard drive to the Post.
MacIsaac, who said he tried contacting the owner of the laptop to come get it, said he was afraid he would be murdered as “a guy who had something he wanted out of this shop.”
He supposedly discovered a 12-minute video of Hunter engaging in a sex act with an unidentified woman and allegedly smoking crack on the device, as well as explicit pictures.

MacIsaac claimed he was “not political” although his Facebook posts in 2016 indicated that he voted for Trump.
“This is the same garbage Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s henchman, it’s a last-ditch effort in this desperate campaign to smear me and my family,” he fumed.
