1 dead, 1 injured in ‘reported shooting’ at Florida Amazon center, the second fatal incident there this year

Police and firefighters responded to a shooting Tuesday night at the Amazon fulfillment center on Pecan Park Road that left one person dead and another injured, fire officials said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead and another hospitalized after a Tuesday night incident at a Florida Amazon fulfillment center, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Details regarding the incident remained unclear Tuesday night. But the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is working on providing an update, confirming on Twitter that it is a “reported shooting and the “scene is being secured” as a news conference is scheduled for late Tuesday. .

Fire officials said they transported a victim at about 7:45 p.m. after pronouncing someone else dead.

Video from media outlets as well as Twitter posts from people near the reported shooting indicated multiple police vehicles and ambulances near the center.

The Amazon fulfillment center was also the scene of violence three months ago on June 29, when a 20-year-old man applying for a job was fatally shot and two others were injured in what the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office described as an ambush.

The 855,000-square-foot center began operations in 2017 and held its grand opening officially in April 2018.
