Hound’s Tree of Mattituck, N.Y., in Long Island’s North Fork wine country, has opened an inviting tasting room attached to its new working winery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It’s worth a visit, even if it means sipping socially distanced outdoors, for one of the best New York State and especially Long Island wine lists you’re likely to find, with a selection of more than 80 in a vast range of varietals and styles. About a quarter of the wines are made from grapes cultivated on Hound’s Tree’s own 30-acre estate, established five years ago by Alex Rosanelli, a winemaking aficionado from New York who is on track to become a master sommelier. His approach is a minimal-intervention style. For now the wines have been made by another company on the North Fork but will soon be produced in the Brooklyn location. To accompany the wines served by the taste, glass and bottle, there are oysters, small plates, charcuterie and cheeses.
