Did you order a new Ram 1500 with all-weather floor mats? If so, then get ready to pay a visit to your local dealership, as the pickup trucks are included in a global recall.
According to FCA, the floor mats, which were either installed at the factory or sold as aftermarket equipment, could interfere with the accelerator pedal.
The company stated that are already aware of such an incident reported by an owner, who managed to safely stop the vehicle by using the brake-throttle override. Fortunately, there are no recorded accidents or injuries related to this issue.
The temporary fix will see authorized technicians modify the floor mats until new parts are available. The company is advising owners to bring their 1500s in for modifications, but if they do not have sufficient accelerator-pedal clearance, or are unable to go to an authorized dealer, then they should remove the all-weather floor mats until they can visit a dealership.
A total of 186,233 pickup trucks from the 2019-2020 model years are included in this safety campaign, including 160,229 in the United States, 21,937 in Canada, 872 in Mexico and 3,195 in markets outside North America. All are equipped with adjustable pedals and it is estimated that only one percent of the vehicles that are recalled could exhibit the problem.
Apart from the Ram 1500, FCA has also announced a recall for 43,148 all-weather floor mats sold as aftermarket equipment, advising owners to bring them in for modifications pending their replacement.
If they have any questions on the subject, customers can reach out to the Ram or contact their local dealers.
