Brexit latest updates: Angela Merkel prepared to extend trade talks until November to negotiate deal with UK

Black Lives Matter

ANGELA Merkel is prepared to extend Brexit talks until November to negotiate a trade deal with the UK.

The German Chancellor believes negotiations can continue as late as Bonfire Night and still leave enough time to have the Free Trade Agreement in place for the end of 2020.

But she is set to warn Boris Johnson she can’t negotiate a deal between him and other EU leaders unless he takes a “less ideological and more pragmatic” approach.

Downing Street has said talks must be done by the end of September to give businesses enough time to prepare.

This comes as Parliament passed the Immigration Bill last night that would end the UK’s Freedom of Movement with the European Union.

MPs voted 342 to 248 to scrap FoM which would see EU nationals and their families be subjected to the UK’s immigration laws.

It is expected that a points-based system will be introduced in its place, where people would need to meet certain criteria to live and work in the UK.

Face-to-face talks on a deal between the EU and the UK have now begun in Brussels, after both sides pledged to “intensify” discussions.
