CORONAVIRUS deaths in the UK have increased to at least 36,675 after 282 more fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours.
This comes after Boris Johnson’s chief adviser Dominic Cummings claimed he did not break government lockdown rules by travelling to see his family in Durham.
Mr Cummings travelled more than 260 miles from his London home to stay with his parents in the north east of England so his sister could look after his children while he had coronavirus symptoms.
No10 backed his actions earlier today.
He told reporters outside his home in London: “I behaved reasonably and legally.”
When asked by reporters if his trip to Durham during lockdown “looked good”, he added: “Who cares about good looks. It’s a question of doing the right thing. It’s not about what you guys think.”
Boris Johnson has faced heated calls to sack him
Meanwhile, Brits breaching the lockdown over the May bank holiday weekend have been warned they could drag Britain back to “square one”.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said those who continue to ignore restrictions this weekend risk forcing a return to restrictions as he pleaded with Brits to be sensible, despite the weather forecast.
