A number of top talents took centre stage as the grass swing
is now the priority on the ATP Tour. While there were tournaments occurring in
Germany and the Netherlands, not a lot of significant movement occurred in the ATP rankings. Despite this, there are still some significant story lines.
It was relatively quiet at the top of the rankings. Jannik
Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz remain first and second with them not competed.
Alexander Zverev had a week off following his maiden Grand Slam title. Felix
Auger-Aliassime remains in fourth with Ben Shelton keeping fifth spot after his
title at the Stuttgart Open. Alex de Minaur was also in a final, but failure to
win the Libema Open s-Hertogenbosch sees him sit only 10 points behind.
A semi-final for Daniil Medvedev sees him climb above Novak
Djokovic who slips to eighth. Taylor Fritz failed to defend his title in Stuttgart
after a tense final against Shelton. He remains ahead of Flavio Cobolli in 10th.
Lorenzo Musetti, Jakub Mensik and Luciano Darderi naturally
move up a spot thanks to 40 points coming off the tally of Karen Khachanov who
drops to 18th. In truth, despite there being two ATP 250 tournaments
on, movement is very limited. Matteo Arnaldi rise above Ugo Humbert into 33rd
despite not playing.
Majchrzak bathes in glory of title triumph with significant
rise
The big winner came in the form of Kamil Majchrzak. He got
the better of de Minaur in s-Hertogenbosch for a first ATP title. He was the
Polish number one beforehand, but now he has made sure that there is no chance
of that changing for a while. Into a new career high of 47th in the
world, he defeated the top three seeds enroute to that breakthrough title.
