Trump’s Ex Border Boss Floats Mass Deportation Plan, But The Numbers Don’t Add Up
Retired Chief Border Patrol Agent Greg Bovino, who was once the face of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, seems to have his sights set on bigger things.
Furthermore, he claimed the “grassroots support” he’s clocked suggests that “90% of the country wants mass deportations” and vowed that deporting the “106 million illegals” in the U.S. was his only priority.
According to Census Bureau estimates for 2025, the total U.S. population is around 341 million, meaning Bovino is envisioning ousting nearly one-third of the country.
Plus, Bovino’s figures distort the number of non-citizens living in the U.S. The Pew Research Center estimated around 14 million undocumented immigrants were living in the U.S. in 2023, numbers which have reportedly fallen since Trump entered office.
To get figures close to Bovino’s, Pew determined that one would have to misinterpret visa data, which lumps short-term tourist visas, green-card holders and estimates of undocumented immigrants into one big number.
