FSU coaching staff makes huge impression on elite in-state CB target
The FSU Seminoles are very familiar with 2027 four-star cornerback Izayah Vickers. Before his visit to witness a spring practice on Tuesday, Vickers has already been on campus four times.
Florida State was fresh off of spring break. However, Vickers was impressed by how the coaching staff was pushing the players to execute.

“I really loved practice. Love how the coaches challenge the players,” Vickers said via Warchant. “Even though they’re coming off a break, really challenging them and pushing them. Pushing them to the maximum extreme, just to get the best out of them.”
This trip has a little something different to it for Vickers. It was a chance for him to be around new cornerbacks coach Blue Adams, who joined the Seminoles’ staff back in December.
As a cornerback, it’s very important to have the mental part of football down as well as the physical seeing as every player at the position will get beat eventually. Vickers talked about how Adams emphasized being very knowledgeable and aware while on the field.
“Attacking the knowledge of the game, and their football IQ, and really trying to emphasize being smart on the field,” said Vickers. “And being smart every single play, and not being checked out mentally.”

Vickers went to mention that Adams impressed him with how kept pushing the players on every play, and that they all responded to everything he was trying to teach.
“He’s really a teacher,” Vickers said. “He wants them to perfect their craft and be the best at their craft at all times. He’s always really digging into them, really trying to push them, and really trying to push them to be better every single day. Every single route.
“He’s new there, but they’re responding to him. … They’re very responsive to what he’s trying to get them to do.”
There was a bit of controversy that came with Vickers. A reporter stated that he called FSU’s practice mediocre, but his father made it clear that he didn’t say that. In fact, Vickers has Florida State as one of his top schools according to his agent Ace Thomas.

Vickers is the No. 94 player nationally and the No. 9 cornerback per Rivals industry rankings. In the state of Florida, he’s the No. 18 prospect.
