Viral Italy espresso machine from World Baseball Classic up for auction

Team Italy shocked all of baseball with its undefeated run to the World Baseball Classic semifinals.

How did the Italians do it? Well, a good blend of strong pitching and timely hitting is one explanation.

But their dugout espresso machine certainly didn’t hurt.

Italy took shots of premium Italian espresso during home run celebrations and to keep the energy up throughout the tournament. Slugger Vinnie Pasquantino was flying high, physically as well as emotionally, after taking a shot to mark each of his WBC-record three home runs against Mexico.

“I’m caffeinated,” said Pasquantino, the team captain and unofficial barista, per The Athletic. “I’m beaned up right now.”

Now you, too, can experience the stimulation that fueled Team Italy. The dugout espresso machine, authenticated through three of Italy’s games, is up for auction at MLB Auctions. The highest bid as of Friday afternoon was $3,010.

According to MLB.com, the auction runs through 8 p.m. ET March 23. All net proceeds benefit the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center.

The espresso machine features Team Italy’s letter “I” logo on each side, three WBC logos, player number decals and a sticker that reads “Baseball isn’t boring,” according to MLB.

Alas, Italy’s WBC run ended in a semifinal loss to eventual champion Venezuela. But its 8-6 upset of Team USA and a pool championship will be remembered for years.

Someone out there is going to remember it every morning when it comes time for a jolt of espresso.
