Saints announce six signings and a trade to start new league year
The clock struck 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 11, marking the start of the NFL’s new year — and kicking the door down on free agency. Verbal agreements and handshaking has gone on around the league for a week (or two), but now deals can be signed and made official. For their part, the New Orleans Saints announced six signings and a trade as soon as the rules allowed them to do so.
Between five new additions — running back Travis Etienne Jr., left guard David Edwards, linebacker Kaden Elliss, tight end Noah Fant, and punter Ryan Wright — and a new contract for defensive tackle John Ridgeway III, the Saints have been busy. They also completed a trade with the Houston Texans for punter Kai Kroeger that swapped 2028 draft picks (upgrading New Orleans’ seventh rounder to a sixth-round choice). All of these moves were previously reported and covered in our ongoing free agency tracker, but it’s good to see them lined up all official like this.
