Texas infielder Temo Becerra earns SEC Co-Player of the Week honors

As Longhorns baseball continued its winning ways last week, the offense thrived. While they received contributions from everyone on the roster, one player stood out in Temo Becerra. The Longhorns‘ star infielder was a hits machine, earning himself national honors for his play. On Monday, he was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week.

During the Longhorns 4-0 stretch, the California native posted a .500 batting average and 2.005 OPS. He also showed off his power with three home runs and two doubles. Whenever Beccera had a chance to drive runners in, he came through, leading the offense with seven RBI.

While Beccera made headlines with his bat, he also reached new career highs. He has the first multi-home run game of his career against NO.9 Coastal Carolina. The Buchanan High Alum also shone on the national stage with a two-run blast against Ohio State on Sunday in the BRUCE BOLT College Classic.

Although Beccera’s play was impressive, it was a continuation of the success he has had since opening day. In 11 games, the Redshirt Senior has posted a .353 batting average while driving in 12 runs. He has been one of the Longhorns most productive bats on a team that has scored runs in bunches.

With the regular season far from over, Beccera has plenty of time to build on his success. He has shown great plate discipline, drawing nine walks while only striking out four times. If he can continue to take advantage of the strike thrown to him, more hardware could be on the horizon.

Over the next few weeks, his focus will be on building on his stellar play and helping the Longhorns move closer to winning a national title.
