Alex de Minaur calls out Hubert Hurkacz’s serving routine
In a video for the ATP Tour, De Minaur and a number of other men’s tennis players were asked to pick a fellow player and decided to reveal a green or red flag of theirs.
De Minaur picked Hurkacz, and decided to reveal a red flag he thinks the former world number six has relating to his serve.
“What I hate about Hubi Hurkacz. How he walks up to the court, walks up to serve, just wobbles around, he’s not even interested,” joked De Minaur.
“Gets up to the line, bounces the ball a couple times, doesn’t look interested and then serves a 234 km/h ace.
“It is so frustrating mate. Show a little bit of passion, alright. At least make me feel better about myself after you’ve aced me. But you do it every single time and you make it look way too easy. I don’t like that about you.”
Hurkacz is one of the biggest servers on the ATP Tour, which has enabled him to win two Masters 1000 titles and reach the semifinals of Wimbledon.
Alex de Minaur vs Hubert Hurkacz Head-to-Head
Although De Minaur finds facing Hurkacz’s serve frustrating, he actually has a winning head-to-head against the Pole.
Leading their head-to-head 3-1, De Minaur has shown that he has learnt how to combat Hurkacz’s big serve.
This was on full display at the United Cup this year, where De Minaur beat Hurkacz in three sets.
De Minaur and Hurkacz seem unlikely to play at their next tournament of Indian Wells, as they would both need to reach the semifinals.
The Indian Wells main draw gets underway on Wednesday, March 4.
