LSU gymnastics star Kailin Chio surpasses Olympic champ Jordan Chiles

There is a new queen in the women’s gymnastics world, with LSU Tigers star Kailin Chio continuing to shine after bursting onto the scene as a superstar freshman.

The 19-year-old Henderson, Nevada, native broke onto the scene during her first year at LSU, earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors. Chio also won the 2025 national championship on vault, with a nearly flawless score of 9.975.

Now, during her sophomore campaign, Chio is flexing her all-around skills.

After another successful meet over the weekend for Chio and the Tigers, she surpassed Olympic champion Jordan Chiles (39.710), who stars for the UCLA Bruins, as the top all-around gymnast in the country with a score of 39.725.

Along with leading in the all-around, Chio leads the nation on vault and balance beam. Chiles remains the top-ranked gymnast on the floor exercise. Chio leads the country in perfect 10s with six, while Chiles has registered five.

Over the weekend, Chio scored a perfect 10 in balance beam for the third consecutive meet, leading the Tigers to victory in the Podium Challenge.

Oklahoma remains the top-ranked team in the country with a Team NQS of 197.943, while the Tigers trail closely behind at 197.836. The NQS Average is calculated by using scores from a program’s five best home meets, dropping the highest and lowest scores.

It will be an exciting end to the season on the mats, and with Chio continuing to soar for LSU, they have a real shot at claiming a second team national championship in three years.
