This offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs was always going to be one that saw the franchise be ruthless in its approach to how it rebuilds the roster.

And as it turns out, that ruthlessness has started rather early.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have released right tackle Jawaan Taylor and have gained $20 million in cap space. That isn’t surprising.
Given Taylor’s drop in production and his increasingly frustrating penalty issues, Kansas City has cut ties with him ahead of free agency.
But now that also creates another problem.

Who replaces Taylor?
Well, Wanya Morris looms as one who could step up and be Patrick Mahomes’ starting right tackle, but he would hardly be a firm option.

With the cap space created by releasing Taylor, the Chiefs could, in theory, look to acquire a tackle in free agency, but that would be pricey. The draft is where they could also look, but I doubt the franchise will use the ninth pick on a tackle.
Of course, they could, but if Jeremiyah Love is available, Kansas City likely won’t pass up that opportunity.
So, will it be Morris or a veteran free agent who protects Mahomes’ right-hand side in 2026?
