Titans release two veteran starters ahead of new NFL league year

Even with most of the Tennessee Titans‘ braintrust at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the organization still made some roster moves.

On Wednesday, the Titans decided to part ways with veterans Xavier Woods and Lloyd Cushenberry (failed physical designation), freeing up roughly $7.1 million in salary cap space heading into free agency.

Cushenberry had a second uneven season in 2025, coming off an Achilles injury that cost him most of 2024. After struggling early in the season, he did improve as the season wore on, but a foot injury late in the season opened the door for Corey Levin, who played well in his absence.

With Levin scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, the Titans are extremely thin along the interior of the offensive line, with only Trey Hill on the roster with NFL experience at center.

Woods was brought in last offseason to be a veteran presence for both the defense and the secondary, but battled some injury issues and eventually gave way to rookie Kevin Winston Jr. as the season progressed. Woods finished 2025 with 11 games played and 39 total tackles. Unlike Cushenberry, Woods’ release did not accompany a failed physical designation, meaning he has recovered from the hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve.

These two moves are likely the first of a flurry of activity in the coming days and weeks. Buckle up, it appears a complete roster overhaul is on the way.
