Tigers' Troy Melton unavailable to pitch in spring training games

LAKELAND, FL – Detroit Tigers right-hander Troy Melton isn’t available to pitch in spring training games.

The reason for that?

The 25-year-old is dealing with general arm soreness.

“We’re playing it pretty conservative,” manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday, Feb. 25, before a spring game against the Toronto Blue Jays. “We’re not going to have him pitch through any kind of soreness.”

In 2025, Melton registered a 2.76 ERA with 15 walks (8.3% walk rate) and 36 strikeouts (20% strikeout rate) across 45⅔ innings in 16 games (four starts). He emerged as an X-factor in the playoffs.

He also had a 3.23 ERA over 39 innings in 10 starts for Double-A Erie and a 2.72 ERA over 36⅓ innings in eight games (six starts) for Triple-A Toledo.

“We’ll get him checked out,” Hinch said. “We’re doing everything we can. We’ll have an update in the next medical report now that he’s not on the list to pitch right now. I’ll have a better update when I know more.”
