Massive Storm Pummels Northeast, Mexican Drug Lord’s Killing Unleashes Chaos: Live Updates

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Monday endorsed a dozen contenders for Republican-held House seats as the party aims to flip seats in districts won by President Donald Trump in 2024.

The endorsements, the first wave of the party’s “Red to Blue” program, include districts from Arizona to Pennsylvania that were won by President Donald Trump and House Republicans in 2024. While some, like Arizona’s 6th District and Virginia’s 2nd District, were narrow GOP victories, others — including Arizona’s 2nd District and Tennessee’s 5th — saw double-digit Republican romps.

“House Democrats are on offense and poised to take back the majority, thanks in large part to the strength of our candidates,” Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), the chair of the DCCC, said. “The candidates named to this first round of our Red to Blue program are united by their desire to fight for hardworking families in their districts — not the billionaires bankrolling Republicans’ corrupt and divisive machine.

While the DCCC will occasionally pick sides in contested primaries, the first round of endorsements includes the clear frontrunners in each race.

The party is backing former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez in Arizona’s rural 2nd District, where he outran former Vice President Kamala Harris by 6 points in a losing effort in 2024, and veteran JoAnn Mendoza in the more suburban 6th District of Arizona.

They are backing Christina Bohanan, who narrowly lost in both 2022 and 2024, in Iowa’s 1st District, and Lutheran Minister Sarah Trone Garriott in the state’s 3rd District. They are also supporting state Sen. Sean McCann in Michigan’s 4th District. Elsewhere in the Midwest, they are supporting Rebecca Cooke in her rematch with GOP Rep. Derrick Van Orden in Wisconsin’s 3rd District.

Two of the biggest reaches for the party are in the South — they are backing Jamie Ager in North Carolina’s 11th District, which includes the Appalachian part of the state, against GOP Rep. Chuck Edwards, and supporting Columbia, Tennessee, Mayor Chaz Molder against scandal-plagued Rep. Andy Ogles in that state’s 5th District.

Swingier territory in Pennsylvania sees them supporting Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti in the state’s 8th District, and backing former news anchor Janelle Stetson in the state’s 10th District as she tries to oust archconservative Rep. Scott Perry for the second time. They are also supporting former Rep. Elaine Luria’s comeback attempt against Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s 2nd District, and prosecutor Shannon Taylor in the state’s 1st District.
