Georgia rallies past Texas 91-80, setting up critical UT stretch run

While Saturday’s loss at Georgia shouldn’t send the Texas men’s basketball team back to the March Madness “bubble,” the Longhorns won’t have much room for error if the are to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs rallied past Texas in Athens 91-80, making the final four games of the regular season even more crucial for UT.

The Bulldogs led 45-35 at halftime. But the Horns tied the game at 67 behind Matas Vokietaitis (22 points), Dailyn Swain (21 points) and Jordan Pope (17 points).

That’s when the Bulldogs went on a run, started by a Justin Abson dunk that kicked off a 10-2 run. Jeremiah Wilkinson led Georgia with 19 points off the bench. Marcus Millender added 15 points and five assists.

UT falls to to 17-10, 8-6 in SEC. Texas returns home to Moody Center to host the No. 11 Florida Gators on Wednesday. Then Texas has back-to-back road games at rivals Texas A&M and No. 20 Arkansas before finishing the season in Austin against another rival, the Oklahoma Sooners.

Texas will be the underdog in three of its final four games. The Longhorns have work to do.
