Report: Giants, John Harbaugh still working through 'some grey area'

The New York Giants and John Harbaugh remain in active negotiations more than 48 hours after reports first indicated he had agreed to become the franchise’s next head coach, with a formal contract still unsigned as both sides sort out organizational and structural language in the deal.

NFL insider Albert Breer reports that talks are expected to “spill into the weekend” as Harbaugh’s camp and the Giants work through what Breer described as a bit of “grey area” tied to how the organization will operate under his leadership — not money.

Remaining hurdles allegedly involve reporting structure and operational responsibilities within the Giants’ front office, with discussions continuing over exactly how Harbaugh will interface with general manager Joe Schoen and other executives.

Despite the delay, multiple insiders emphasize there’s no indication the deal is in jeopardy.

Both sides remain committed to finalizing a contract, and a press conference to introduce Harbaugh is reportedly targeted for early next week once details are ironed out.
