New results from the first STAC duals for high school girls wrestling

This past year was the first year the Southern Tier Athletic Conference recognized girls wrestling as a STAC sport. In previous years, female wrestlers in the area competed for Section 4 honors without an individual league on record. The high school sport is growing, and this past week the STAC held its first girls wrestling duals tournament.

The Central/East high schools kicked off the tournament last week at Oneonta High School, where teams competed head-to-head for a chance to advance in league standings.

Despite a series of forfeits due to differences in rosters, Chenango Forks managed to capitalize in remaining weight classes, finishing the tournament with an undefeated record of 5-0.

β€ŽThis past week, Horseheads hosted the duals for the Metro and West divisions in a tightly-contested night of matches that ended with three teams ranking second. Take a look at where each school stacked up in the tournament:

β€ŽA mixture of team prowess and individual mat rivalries highlighted the growing competition of each school as well as the sport as a whole in the STAC. The results from both nights will help paint a picture of what’s to come for the rest of the season, especially as each school looks to make an impact at the upcoming Section 4 championships on February 13th at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.
