Casper Ruud 2025 Season Review: A Disappointing Year for the Norwegian

Casper Ruud, the 26-year-old from Norway and a three-time Major finalist, was well short of any expectations in 2025. The Norwegian ends the year ranked 12th in the world with two titles to his name at Madrid and Stockholm.

First Half of 2025 – Highs and Lows

Ruud started the year with an early exit at the Australian Open in the second round, but bounced back well in his next tournament to win Dallas. He then had a string of poor results across the South American clay court swing, Indian Wells, Miami and even in the early part of the clay court season.

Things seemed to click for him as he put forth a performance worthy of his talent by winning the Madrid Master–which is his biggest title to date. Despite a quarterfinal drubbing to Jannik Sinner in Rome, the Norwegian looked in decent touch once again entering the French Open.

However, the first half culminated in a shock loss at the French Open in the second round to Nuno Borges. All in all, this first half was full of varied results with the lows outnumbering the highs.

Second Half of 2025 – Sole Title at Stockholm

Ruud did take some time off to nurse the knee injury with which he was playing at the French Open and as a result missed the grass court season, including Wimbledon.

The North American hard court swing was not at all kind to Ruud as he was beaten in the early rounds including a second round exit at the US Open to complete a year of second round exits at the Majors in 2025.

The Norwegian did end his year on a better note as he was able to string together a semifinal appearance in Tokyo, champion in Stockholm and a quarterfinal appearance in Basel.

2026 Season

Ruud has been confirmed to play in Auckland prior to the Australian Open which should be a good preparation if he is to be competitive in January. The Norwegian needs to improve his serve especially on the hard courts and maybe we see a different Ruud in 2026.

An in form Ruud is always exciting to watch and the tennis world would do very well with the Norwegian delighting tennis fans at the Majors again.
