Brandon Moreno books quick turnaround to headline UFC Mexico in February

Brandon Moreno will look to remove the sour taste from his mouth quickly after a disappointing loss at UFC 323.

Moreno (23-9-2 MMA, 11-5-2 UFC) was finished by second-round TKO loss to Tatsuro Taira this past Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas – a stoppage he immediately protested.

Now the former flyweight champion aims to rebound when he takes on rising contender Asu Almabayev in the UFC Fight Night 269 headliner Feb. 28 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, promotion officials announced Friday.

Winner of 19 of his past 20, Almabayev (23-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) is coming off back-to-back wins over Jose Ochoa and most recently a submission of former title challenger Alex Perez at UFC Fight Night 265 in Qatar.

The current UFC Mexico lineup includes:

  • Asu Almabayev vs. Brandon Moreno

  • Ryan Gandra vs. Jose Medina

  • Kevin Borjas vs. Imanol Rodriguez

  • Felipe Bunes vs. Edgar Chairez

  • Damian Pinas vs. Wesley Schultz
