This isn’t just a move by new MSU head coach Pat Fitzgerald to appeal to fans and ingratiate himself with the community either. Bullough, who has spent the past few years with Notre Dame, is considered to be one of the rising stars in coaching. Heck, even Mike Vrabel said a few years ago that Bullough was one of the smartest players he’s ever coached, so it’s no surprise that Bullough is excelling as a coach, even at the young age of 33.

Predictably, the move had social media on fire, as Spartan fans, many of whom were clamoring for Bullough to come back home to East Lansing most of the season, celebrated the hire. You can see some of the best reactions to the move below:
The vibes are actually insane right now. We got our program back 🥹
I may be undecided on Fitz. But a Bullough back in East Lansing, rebuilding our defense? I’m all in on that. https://t.co/fG40BicdZR
So you’re telling me that MSU has hired Pat Fitzgerald, who appears to be blessed by at least one of our mega donors with a record setting single donation, as well as retained Joe Rossi at DC and hired Rising Star Max Bullough back home as Co-DC/LB coach? Amazing offseason so far
