Eminem Charts His First Rock Hit With Help From A Genre Favorite

Eminem is one of the most successful hip-hop musicians of all time. He regularly fills spaces on a handful of Billboard charts, especially those focused on rap, even when he is not promoting anything new, as his catalog is filled with some of the biggest smashes the genre has ever seen.

Throughout the years, Eminem has also dabbled in other styles, and he has scored plenty of pop hits. The superstar scores his first win on a pair of Billboard-published charts — ones he may never have expected to reach in his career — thanks to a recent surprise team-up with Jack White, which turned into first a viral sensation and now a commercial success.

Eminem Joined Jack White for a Halftime Surprise

Eminem was the surprise guest during the halftime show at the annual Thanksgiving Day Classic game played by the Detroit Lions in the team’s hometown. The show was headlined by White, who performed several of his own tunes as well as the White Stripes classic “Seven Nation Army.” Partway through the program, Eminem joined him on stage, and the two delivered something truly special. The musicians mashed up Eminem’s “Till I Collapse” with “Hello Operator” by the White Stripes, turning two cuts into something wholly original, yet also familiar.

“Hello Operator/Till I Collapse” Debuts on Two Billboard Charts

“Hello Operator/Till I Collapse (Live at Ford Field)” debuts on two Billboard charts this week. The cut, credited to both White and Eminem, opens at No. 6 on the Alternative Digital Song Sales list and No. 13 on the Rock Digital Song Sales tally.

Eminem, the Rock Star

Eminem appears on both genre-specific lists for the very first time. Impressively, the rapper breaks into the top 10 on his first try on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart.

Jack White Hits New Career Highs With His Eminem Collaboration

White, meanwhile, reaches never-before-seen highs on the two rosters where he has appeared previously. “Hello Operator/Till I Collapse (Live at Ford Field)” marks his ninth trip to the Alternative Digital Song Sales list and his third top 10. The collaboration outpaces his previous best showing on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, as “Just One Drink” peaked at No. 16 more than a decade ago.

Jack White Charts Three New Top 10 Bestsellers

White scores three debuts on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks only the bestselling tracks in that one rock subgenre. “Hello Operator/Till I Collapse (Live at Ford Field)” with Eminem is the biggest of the bunch, and it is followed very closely by both “Seven Nation Army (Live at Ford Field)” and “That’s How I’m Feeling (Live at Ford Field).” White’s tunes open at Nos. 6, 7, and 8 respectively. Despite being one of the most prominent names in what can be called alternative music, White scores his first three top 10s thanks to his recent performance at the halftime show.

“Seven Nation Army” Remains a Bestseller

While his new cuts enjoy lofty beginnings on two charts, they do not stand as White’s highest-rising hits at the moment. “Seven Nation Army,” the most famous White Stripes tune and a must-hear at almost all sporting events these days, settles at No. 4 on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart and No. 7 on the Rock Digital Song Sales list, dropping slightly from last time around.

Eminem Joins Guns N’ Roses and The Pretty Reckless

On the alternative ranking, White and Eminem claim the only new arrivals, but the same cannot be said for the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. “Nothin’” by Guns N’ Roses earns the sole top 10 beginning as it kicks off its time at No. 9. White and Eminem are beaten by a pair of Guns N’ Roses tracks, as “Atlas” also launches at No. 12.

Meanwhile, “Where Are You Christmas?,” originally made famous by Taylor Momsen in the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas, debuts at No. 11. This time around, it is credited to her band The Pretty Reckless, and it sounds markedly different from when she was a child.
