According to Adam Schefter, at this point, the Colts want to see what kind of shape Rivers is in, while Rivers still has to decide if he wants to play.

But let’s play the hypothetical game for a moment and say that Rivers ends up signing with the Colts. He is currently a semifinalist for the 2026 Hall of Fame class. So what would this decision do to his eligibility?

According to Clayton Holloway, if Rivers signs with the Colts and takes a snap, his Hall of Fame eligibility would reset — meaning that he would have to wait another five seasons to regain his eligibility.

The Colts are looking into Rivers as they navigate injuries at quarterback while clinging to their playoff hopes.

Shane Steichen confirmed on Monday that Daniel Jones is out for the season with an Achilles injury.

In addition to that, Riley Leonard is dealing with a knee injury, and Anthony Richardson remains on injured reserve.

Rivers last played during the 2020 season and did so for the Colts, leading them to the playoffs.

He has been the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama since 2021. Rivers is 44 years old.

Rivers was the fourth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft. He is an eight-time Pro Bowler and won the 2013 Comeback Player of the Year award.
