The Miami Dolphins are — at least for now — not interested in trading Tyreek Hill, despite outside interest.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, there are two teams that stand out as clear favorites to make a deal for Hill: the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I don’t think the Dolphins are thinking of trading Tyreek Hill now,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Monday on The Pat McAfee Show. “But if the season continues to go this way, you’d have to think that all options would be on the table at that point in time. They’re trying to turn things around. … The Dolphins still think they have a good team.”
Trading away the 31-year-old receiver makes a ton of sense for the long-term health of the Dolphins, especially if the team comes to the conclusion that it won’t be a contender in 2025. Hill is due to count a staggering $51.2 million against Miami’s salary cap next season, which makes it likely this is his last year with the Dolphins, regardless. Getting draft capital in return for his departure seems like a no-brainer if Miami is bottom-tier team.
But the greatest obstacle in the way of a deal happening is the shaky job security of general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel. Both are seemingly on thin ice and can’t afford to sacrifice playmakers in 2025 in the hopes of setting up the Dolphins for success in 2026 and beyond.
Hill, who is now more than a year removed from his last reception of 30 yards or more, has reportedly been on other teams’ radar all offseason.
“Right now, I have talked to a few teams that are at least monitoring his future a little bit,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said in August. “I know the Dolphins earlier this summer were telling teams, ‘no, we’re not trading Tyreek Hill.’ But they just wonder if he’s going to be available? It could be wishful thinking. Maybe they want him to be available. But he’s a player that when I bring up the teams and say, who’s sort of a trade target you’re watching? They bring up Tyreek Hill.”
In the Dolphins’ Week 1 loss, Hill finished with four receptions for 40 yards and was seen showing visible frustration on the sideline.
