Former Wisconsin lineman among PFF’s highest-graded players from Vikings' preseason opener

  • Former Wisconsin offensive lineman Joe Huber earned a 94.7 PFF grade in the Vikings’ preseason win.
  • Huber, an undrafted free agent, played 55 snaps at right guard.
  • Huber started 25 games at right guard for Wisconsin before joining the Vikings.

Former Wisconsin offensive lineman Joe Huber was among PFF’s highest-graded players in the Minnesota Vikings‘ preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

In the Vikings’ first action since falling to the Los Angeles Rams in January’s Wild Card Weekend, they defeated the Texans 20-10 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Huber, who logged 55 snaps at right guard, pocketed a 94.7 overall grade from PFF for his performance in the victory.

The former Badger was the only Viking on either offense or defense to earn a PFF grade over 90.0. Center Michael Jurgens (80.0), wide receiver Jordan Addison (79.6), offensive tackle Walter Rouse (78.4) and wide receiver Myles Price (76.8) rounded out the top-end contributors on the offensive end. With Huber in action, Minnesota accumulated 86 rushing yards and one score on the ground on Saturday while allowing just two sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Huber arrived in Minnesota as an undrafted free agent back in April. The Ohio native spent a pair of seasons in Madison, logging 25 starts at right guard as a key piece of a strong offensive line unit.

Prior to his stint with UW, Huber laced up under Luke Fickell with the Cincinnati Bearcats from 2020-22. There, he played 20 games and notched honorable mention All-AAC accolades as a redshirt sophomore in 2022.

Huber will look to continue his strong play in Minnesota’s next preseason contest against the New England Patriots on Aug. 16. He is currently listed as the No. 2 option at right guard behind Will Fries. Continued strong play ahead of the regular season could shift the former Badger’s snap counts down the line.
