FOXBOROUGH — During joint practice with the Washington Commanders on Wednesday, Mike Vrabel emerged from a pile of players with a streak of blood running down his face.
So, what happened?
The fight began after Patriots rookie TreVeyon Henderson blocked a Commanders player during the team period, with both players falling to the ground and engaging in a scuffle. Vrabel quickly jumped in trying to break it up, but rookie tackle Will Campbell also joined in to help his teammate, and others jumped in afterwards.
So now that it’s been a few days, the Patriots’ head coach was asked if this moment made it into the film room.
“I didn’t show the team. They all looked at it, obviously, in their meeting rooms because guys were laughing at me,” Vrabel said on Sunday. “I realized that Will and I were thinking the same thing, just trying to get the second guy off and TreVeyon, and they’re wrestling around – I just don’t want anything to happen to anybody. My job is to try to break those up, and I don’t mind doing it, and that’s kind of how it went.”
Campbell was also asked about his part in this viral moment, but kept his answer short and sweet.
“Protect your teammates,” Campbell said. “That’s all I gotta say about it.”
