The Browns held their eighth day of practice on Saturday morning in Berea, OH. Quarterback Kenny Pickett made a partial return from his hamstring strain and participated in some individual drills, while Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco took snaps during team activities. In team drills, however, it was both Pickett and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders that did not participate.
Pickett suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday, July 26th, during individual drills at Browns training camp. Since then, he has been a non-participant in practice, something he can’t afford in a wide-open quarterback competition. Discussing the minor setback, Pickett said he’s trying to return to full participation as soon as possible:
“It’s part of the game. I know I have the instinct to create plays outside of the pocket, but I can’t do that as soon as I’d like to,” said Pickett when answering questions from Browns media members.
Without both Pickett and Sanders, the Browns relied on Gabriel and Flacco to split team reps. Sanders is expected to be a full participant in the Browns’ next practice, while Pickett will remain day-to-day as he works his way back from the injury. He is expected to be ready for the Browns’ joint practice with the Carolina Panthers on August 6th.
