Misson Valley sweeps Bitterroot to get back to .500

BITTERROOT — Hunter Emerson collected five hits and five RBIs over the two-game series and the Mission Valley Mariners swept the doubleheader against the Bitterroot Bucs Sunday in American Legion Baseball. 

Emerson collected two hits and two RBIs in the Mariners’ 4-2 win in game two, before adding three more hits and RBIs in game two’s 9-1 win. 

With the sweep, the Mariners get back to .500 and currently sit at 8-8. 

Mission Valley 9, Bitterroot 1

Cole Wadsworth collected two hits, an RBI and a run scored out of the leadoff spot, but it was what he did on the mound that propelled the Mariners to an easy win in game two. 

Wadsworth shut down the Bucs (3-7) offense, pitching a complete game, allowing five hits and no earned runs, striking out 10 across seven innings. The only Bucs run came in the bottom of the seventh inning when McCoy Endres reached on an error and scored on Joey Wheeler’s RBI single. 

Emerson and Wadsworth combined for five of the Mariners’ six hits, with Aiden Courville adding a single in the fifth inning. Paxon DuMont drove in two runs on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice.  

Mission Valley 4, Bitterroot 2 

After being down 2-1 heading into the final inning, the Mariners rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to complete the comeback and beat the Bucs in game one. 

With two outs, the Mariners hit four-straight singles with Landon Shoemake’s hit scoring Courville to tie the game, 2-2. The next batter Emerson collected the fourth hit, a 2-run single to give the Mariners their first lead of the game. 

Landon Pablo earned the win, after pitching two innings of relief, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He gave up a leadoff single to start the bottom half of the seventh but retired the next three batters to end the game. 

Cody Haggard started for the Mariners, giving up five hits, one earned run, four walks and striking out five across five innings. Shoemake finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
