Florida football adds in-state OT Javarii Luckas to 2026 recruiting haul on Monday

Florida football added to its 2026 recruiting haul on Monday morning with a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Javarii Luckas. He marked the 11th prep prospect to verbally pledge to the program, ahead of fellow three-star OT Tyler Chukuyem, who gave his word later in the day to make it an even dozen.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 305-pound trench warrior out of Belle Glade(Florida) Glades Central picked the Gators out of eight total offers, including the Miami Hurricanes, Penn State Nittany Lions, West Virginia Mountaineers and South Florida Bulls. Luckas made an official visit to Gainesville on May 30, followed by a trip to Morgantown the following weekend, before choosing the Orange and Blue.

He still has an official visit date set in Tampa with USF, but that will likely be canceled following his recent decision.

Javarii Luckas’ connections with Florida football

Luckas is connected to Florida’s football program through his cousin Kelvin Taylor, who played running back for the Gators from 2013 to 2015 and logged 35 total games played over those three seasons.

“I had a cousin that played running back there, Kelvin Taylor. So I’m really used to the campus. I’ve been going there since I was little,” Luckas told Swamp247. When it came time for the offensive tackle to make his official visit to Florida, his cousin joined in to help facilitate his alma mater’s recruiting efforts, though he was also given plenty of space to make a name for himself.

“When I had my (OV) there at Florida, when I was hanging out with the players, I felt like I was in a good relationship with them already,” Luckas said.

Sale, Decoster play important roles in Javarii Luckas’ recruitment

Of course, the program’s coaching staff played a huge role in his commitment as well. The relentless pursuit of his talents did not go unnoticed by the rising high school senior.

“They will text me like every day and recruited me heavily, and that’s one big thing about recruiting, picking my school,” Luckas said. “They did a good job doing that. So that’s the reason why I separated them from other schools.”

As seen with many other recruits in this cycle and prior, the philosophy has been to build relationships not just with the student-athlete, but also their families. In this case, offensive line coaches Rob Sale and John Decoster were on top of things both on and off the field when it came to luring the coveted gridiron talent to the Orange and Blue.

“Coach Sale, he’s a great coach. I keep saying that because he is, but he’s a cool guy. He called my parents, talked with them,” Luckas said. “Coach Decoster, cool guy, good coach… called my parents every day; text, call, everything.”

When all of those aspects of Florida’s recruiting approach are added up, Billy Napier and Co. have a recipe for success.

“It played a big role in my decision, because if you can’t build a good relationship with my parents as a coach, then I know I’m not going to have a good relationship with you,” Luckas concluded.
