ATP Queen’s Club Day 2 Predictions Including Jack Draper vs Jenson Brooksby
It should be an entertaining second day at the ATP Queen’s Club Championships with a host of star names set to take to the courts, including the British #1 and the man recently crowned French Open champion after one of the best matches in recent memory. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for all 10 matches on the day two, including Carlos Alcaraz vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. But who will advance?
ATP Queen’s Club Day 2 Predictions
Alexei Popyrin vs Aleksandar Vukic
Head-to-head: first meeting
Aleksandar Vukic didn’t have a tough draw in qualifying (Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Adam Walton), but considering his recent form it was essential for the Australian to fight his way through this. Alexei Popyrin on grass can be a bit up and down and you could imagine a scenario where Vukic rushes him off the ground and takes the win. In fact, perhaps the momentum from the last few days can be enough for an upset.
Arthur Rinderknech vs Ben Shelton
Head-to-head: First meeting
Ben Shelton wasn’t even broken in three matches in Stuttgart last week, but it wasn’t enough to beat Alexander Zverev in the semifinals. While it was a great start to his grass-court season, the lottery element on this surface may or may not work in his favour in the long run. Anyway, he’s definitely in better form than Arthur Rinderknech this year and to an extent, he executes a better version of a similar game. Only with a lot more power to back it up.
Prediction: Shelton in 2
Jordan Thompson vs Jaume Munar
Head-to-head: Thompson 1-1 Munar
Jordan Thompson will be gunning for a good result here after missing match points against eventual champion Gabriel Diallo in ‘s-Hertogenbosch last week. The Australian is an excellent grass-courter and has a big edge over Jaume Munar here, whose career record on the grass stands at 3-13. While Munar has improved his attacking options this year, it likely won’t be enough here. Their matchup history (both on clay) doesn’t feel too relevant, though Thompson might draw extra confidence from having beaten the Spaniard on Munar’s preferred surface.
Corentin Moutet vs Taylor Fritz
Head-to-head: first meeting
Taylor Fritz is coming off a perfect week in Stuttgart – in four matches, to break his serve nevermind take a set off him. The American needed that after a pretty mediocre spell on the clay, especially the opening-round loss to Daniel Altmaier at Roland Garros. Corentin Moutet could be a tricky opponent if Fritz is struggling to adjust from Stuttgart, he’s got so much variety and gives opponents almost no rhythm. But it’s tough not to back the world #4 right now.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
Jack Draper vs Jenson Brooksby
Head-to-head: Draper 3-0 Brooksby
Jack Draper has already twice been the story of the ATP Queen’s Club Championships, posting big wins on the way to 2021 quarterfinals and defeating Alcaraz in fine style last year. Now that he’s improved so significantly and has effectively been the third best player so far this season, his expectations will surely be extremely high at this venue. He will need to manage that expectation, both internal and external, but considering he beat Jenson Brooksby comfortably in their 2022 meetings and has made so much progress since, he’ll probably handle the American comfortably again.
