ATP Halle Day 2 Predictions Including Joao Fonseca vs Flavio Cobolli
Nine matches will be played on day two at the ATP Halle Open and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, including Jannik Sinner vs Yannick Hanfmann. But who will secure their place in the second round in Germany?
ATP Halle Day 2 Predictions
Tomas Machac vs Jesper De Jong
Head-to-head: first meeting
Tomas Machac’s game suits all surfaces, whilst Jesper De Jong possesses a tricky style that can trouble his opponents and should be well-suited to the grass. But Machac usually adapts well to something being different being thrown at him and can adjust his game accordingly. The Czech is backed to reach the next round without dropping a set.
Prediction: Machac in 2
Andrey Rublev vs Sebastian Ofner
Head-to-head: first meeting
Andrey Rublev’s challenging season so far means it is impossible to predict any of his matches with any degree of confidence. However, this should be a good matchup for the 10-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist. Sebastian Ofner came through qualifying, so should be match sharp, but his game is nowhere near as formidable as Rublev’s on grass. The Russian probably only needs to stay solid to prevail.
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Laslo Djere
Head-to-head: Djere 2-0 Auger-Aliassime
Both previous meetings between these two were on clay in 2019 with Djere coming out on top on both occasions. But five years down the line, the matchup on grass suits Felix Auger-Aliassime much more. Djere thrives when he has time on his shots, but the Serbian will not get that in a match against the big-serving Auger-Aliassime in the quick conditions at the ATP Halle Open.
Prediction: Auger-Alliasime in 2
Lorenzo Sonego vs Jan-Lennard Struff
Head-to-head: Sonego 1-1 Struff
After a tight battle, Lorenzo Sonego won his previous match on grass against Jan-Lennard Struff. Although the German’s powerful game suits grass, he has struggled for form this season. Sonego’s more solid game will probably be good enough to get past Struff since the 35-year-old has been so prone to bad spells during matches in recent months.
Joao Fonesca vs Flavio Cobolli
Head-to-head: first meeting
Observing how Joao Fonseca performs on grass will be fascinating. The Brazilian does not have much experience on it, but the same was true of Carlos Alcaraz before he won two Wimbledon titles. Nonetheless, it would not be a huge surprise for Fonesca to show a few degrees of ring rust in his first match in 11 months on it, particularly because he relies on going for his shots. Fonseca thrives on momentum and thrilling crowds, and a contest that might contain several mistakes from both players may not be one he battles through.
