Updates and highlights from Jacksonville Jaguars minicamp practice No. 2

The Jacksonville Jaguars are back on the practice field on Wednesday morning for their second of three minicamp practices, with this one being open to the public.

Let’s take a look at the latest updates and highlights from Wednesday’s practice.

As Liam Coen said at the start of OTAs, the Jaguars are in the “learning phase” right now as they implement new offensive and defensive schemes. So the focus has largely been on laying a strong foundation by playing with proper fundamentals, technique, and emphasizing good communication.

But with minicamp, compared to OTAs, the competition element has been intensified.

“We just tightened the racks down a little bit in terms of the amount of repetitions and just upped the competencies a little bit,” Coen said after Tuesday’s practice. “I thought they did a good job today within that, still taking care of each other, practicing the right way. Yes, we upped the level of competition, but you didn’t see a million people banging into each other, guys getting banged up, it was cleaner.”

Coen then added: “We were keeping score on the competition phase of it and it was really the red zone and third down periods where we really kept score. Just trying to make it a little bit more fun for them.”
