Let’s be honest, if you’re trying to steal a car, you’re probably not the sharpest tool in the shed. That much was clear when a group of would-be thieves broke into an auto shop in Flushing, Queens and tried to make off with several high-end vehicles.
What they didn’t realize was that some of those cars were in the shop for a reason; they were broken. So, despite what looked like a Fast and Furious audition, most of them didn’t make it very far.

The whole incident unfolded early Friday morning, just before Express Auto Repair was set to open its doors. Police believe that as many as 10 people broke into the facility and were able to get the keys to several cars, including a white BMW 4-Series, a Mercedes-Benz SL, and a Porsche Cayenne.

A shop employee told CBS New York that all the stolen vehicles actually belonged to the shop’s owner. He had bought them broken and was in the middle of fixing them up. That same employee suggested the theft might not have been entirely random. Her theory? A former customer could have been involved, since the keys are normally kept locked away in a secure box.
As of Friday, the only vehicle still unaccounted for was a black BMW that vanished during the attempted heist. At least two men have been taken in as persons of interest, and police say the investigation is still ongoing.
