Will Sheppard isn’t the only player attending Denver Broncos mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis this week.
The Broncos also brought in six other players, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The list includes Wyoming safety Wyett Ekeler, the younger brother of NFL running back Austin Ekeler. He also tried out for the team at rookie minicamp, so Ekeler is getting an extended look from Denver’s coaching staff.
“We’re evaluating everything,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of the tryout players. “We’ll watch the tape. They have a helmet and a jersey on. We’re looking closely, ‘Can they help us? What’s the vision? What could they do?’ History has told me, personally, [that] I’ve found guys in this camp that weren’t on the 90 [-man roster] that later became on the 90 and then played the following year. So we have to evaluate them all.”
Broncos tryout players
- WR Jaden Smith, UTEP
- WR Will Sheppard, Colorado
- TE Patrick Murtagh, Australia
- LB Milo Eifler, NFL free agent
- DL Shane Cokes, Colorado
- CB Gavin Pringle, Ga. St
- S Wyett Ekeler, Wyoming
We’ll see if any of these players end up on the roster. If the Broncos sign a tryout player, they would need to make a corresponding move to make room on the roster. Denver is already set to sign running back J.K. Dobbins.
