This former prep star, SEC quarterback returning to CT to play for his dad
Quarterback Dante Reno took a his shot in the SEC, committing to play at South Carolina, but after a season in the background, he is coming back to Connecticut.
Reno is coming to Yale to play for his father, longtime Bulldogs coach Tony Reno, he announced Monday.
“I’m super excited for the opportunity to be able to come here play with a great group of guys already here and a good group of freshmen coming in. I’m really excited,” Dante Reno told WTNH-TV’s Erik Dobratz.
Dante, 21, played at Cheshire Academy and Loomis Chaffee in Windsor. He committed to South Carolina in 2022 and stayed the course. This off-season, the Gamecocks have an established starter in LaNorris Sellers, and two other quarterbacks on scholarship, Air Noland, and Cutter Woods, and are considered contenders to land another top prospect, Landon Duckworth.
Reno played briefly in a victory over Akron in 2024, but did not attempt a pass, and took his redshirt for the season.
So Reno, 21, entered the portal. At Yale, he figures to get an opportunity to compete for the job. Quarterback Grant Jordan completed his Ivy League eligibility last season and is now at UMass.
Tony Reno took over at Yale in 2012 and has a 74-46 record, his teams winning or sharing the Ivy League championship four times since 2017. Next season, Ivy League schools will be allowed to compete in the FCS playoffs.
“My dad’s a proven winner,” Dante Reno told 247Sports.com. “Won four championships and puts guys in the NFL, and gets guys drafted. I’m super excited to compete.”
