Lost in all the drama of quarterback Aaron Rodgers signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers was the Steelers second week of OTAs. Even if everyone had a good idea that Rodgers was coming in, the team stayed on task and focused on getting good work in. Here are our big takeaways from the practices.
Quarterbacks are still working hard
The pending arrival of Rodgers didn’t slow the Steelers quarterbacks down last week. Mason Rudolph might not be the starter anymore but he’s still practicing like it and rookie Will Howard continues to make strides.
Position battle brewing at linebacker
Pittsburgh has a current inside linebacker rotation of Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, and Malik Harrison as the top three. This leaves Cole Holcomb, Mark Robinson and rookie Carson Bruener fighting for one spot on the roster.
WR Roman Wilson is on track for a big season
There is plenty to get excited about this season and the healthy return of wide receiver Roman Wilson is at the top of our list. Wilson looked like a starter coming out of college and we didn’t forget that when he missed all of his rookie campaign.
Offensive line coming together
The Steelers season is going to lean heavily on how well the offensive line plays. Through two weeks of OTAs, Broderick Jones’ move to left tackle and Troy Fautanu’s first work at right tackle seem to be working out as planned. This group has a ton of potential and through two weeks of practice, the offensive line is looking like a strength of this team.
