French Open Women’s Semifinal Prediction – Aryna Sabalenka vs Iga Swiatek
In what promises to be an entertaining semifinal, world #1 Aryna Sabalenka will take on three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek for a place in the French Open. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for the match – but will it be the Belarusian or the Pole who secures a place in Saturday’s final?
French Open Semifinal Prediction
Aryna Sabalenka vs Iga Swiatek
Jim: This is a tough match to call. Recent form would suggest that Sabalenka will have the edge, particularly after Swiatek struggled against a similarly powerful but less consistent player in Elena Rybakina in the fourth round. Equally, however, Swiatek won that match and has a fantastic record at the French Open, having won the tournament four times in the past five years. On any other surface, Sabalenka would likely have the edge, but at Roland Garros, Swiatek should have just about enough.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
Jordan: This could be one of the most important matches of both women’s careers. Sabalenka has never beaten Swiatek on clay outside of Madrid (where the conditions are much faster) and she would make a huge statement with a win. Swiatek has not reached any finals since winning last year’s French Open and falling to her biggest rival at her favorite venue could leave a lasting impact.
It is challenging to call, but I am backing the four-time champion. Her defence in the final two sets against Elena Rybakina was outstanding, and that will be crucial to overcoming the world #1.
Steen: The current world #1 takes on a former world #1, Swiatek leads the h2h 8-4, with 5 of those wins coming on clay. The only set dropped these weeks by either player was by Swiatek in the round of 16. The is one of the most in-form matchups you’re going to get. I have to back the history of Swiatek to will herself to this win.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
Shane: A blockbuster in every sense of the word, Sabalenka and Swiatek have combined to hold the #1 spot in the rankings for the last 166 weeks. Sabalenka has played the better tennis in 2025, but the Pole is the three-time reigning champ. Something must give. Despite Swiatek dominating this head-to-head on the dirt, I give the slight edge to Sabalenka. Her power is unmatched, and paired with the current consistency of her groundstrokes, she will be a very tough out.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3
Andreas: Sabalenka’s yet to drop a set at this year’s French Open, while Swiatek’s only real test was a thrilling three-set win over Elena Rybakina in the fourth round. The Belarusian has more power from the baseline and has had by far the better 2025 season. If this match goes into a third set, Swiatek will win. If it ends in two sets, Sabalenka’s power should be decisive. Swiatek’s had a tough clay-court season, and she may be feeling the pressure. I’m going with Sabalenka to take out the three-time defending champion in a very close two-setter.
