Dallas Wings guards miss consecutive games with injuries as team struggles

The Dallas Wings continue to be without two of the team’s top guards, rookie Paige Bueckers and veteran Tyasha Harris.

Harris injured her knee in a May 27th win over the Connecticut Sun and had been sidelined since. Two days later, in a May 29th loss to the Chicago Sky, Bueckers hit her head and entered concussion protocol, missing Saturday’s game against the Chicago Sky.

Paige Bueckers remains in concussion protocol

“After the game, she said she was feeling like she had a headache,” Wings head coach Chris Koclanes said when asked about Bueckers being in concussion protocol. “And then [Bueckers] said a couple things about ‘I was hit this time, that time.’ And so that was the first of it. So once that was said, they went right to the doctor and [placed her in concussion protocol].”

According to ClutchPoints’ Joey Mistretta, neither Wings guard travelled with the team for Wednesday’s match-up against the Seattle Storm.

Maddy Siegrist gets increased opportunities in the wake of injuries

In Bueckers’ absence, Wings forward Maddy Siegrist has entered the starting lineup. Siegrist, a third-year standout out of Villanova, tallied 11 points and 9 rebounds in 31 minutes on Saturday in a loss to the Sky. So far this season, she’s averaging 10 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Harris, who had a breakout year for the Connecticut Sun last season, has had a slow start to the year, averaging 4.6 points in just 16.4 minutes per game.

Bueckers, meanwhile, is an early Rookie of the Year candidate, averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game.

The Wings are 1-6 to begin the season, tied for the worst record in the WNBA with the Connecticut Sun. Their lone win came against the Sun last week, when Bueckers recorded a career-high 21 points on 8-10 shooting.
