The UFC announced Monday that MarQuel Mederos (10-1) is booked to fight newcomer Mark Choinski (8-0) in a lightweight bout on the preliminary portion of this Saturday’s pay-per-view, which takes place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Mederos was scheduled to fight Bolaji Oki this past Saturday at UFC Vegas 107, but withdrew due to an illness. Oki instead went on to defeat short-notice replacement Michael Aswell. The nature of Mederos’ illness is not known, but he is fit to return just a week later and looks to improve to 3-0 in the UFC after scoring back-to-back decision wins over Austin Hubbard and Landon Quinones.
Choinski is undefeated in eight pro bouts, having competed most recently for Anthony Pettis FC. He submitted John Ramirez in his most recent outing and has been pulled from a scheduled APFC bout against Zach Zane on June 15 to make his UFC debut.
