ATP Marseille Day 1 Predictions
Hamad Medjedovic vs Raphael Collignon
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Hamad Medjedovic has been in impressive form on the Challenger Tour and is ranked inside the top 100 for the first time. Marseille will be his first ATP match of the season. Medjedovic reached the final of his last tour-level event and should be confident of making another deep run. His first-round opponent Raphael Collignon, is yet to win a tour-level match and is on a four-match losing streak in all competitions. Medjedovic will enter this match as a heavy favourite and should be good enough to win.
Prediction: Medjedovic in 2
Lorenzo Sonego vs Botic van de Zandschulp
Head-to-Head: Sonego 1-0 Zandschulp
Lorenzo Sonego was unfortunate to draw Holger Rune in the first round in Rotterdam, losing in two closely fought sets, and he will have to battle another tough opponent here. Sonego was outstanding at the Australian Open but may need to bring that level to beat Botic van de Zandschulp, who is on a five-match losing streak but showed real fight in his last match against Carlos Alcaraz. The Dutchman hasn’t reached a tour-level quarterfinal in almost 22 months, but he has a solid chance of doing so this week if he can overcome this hurdle and, as the saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent. It could be anyone’s match but given their recent results, Sonego should have just about enough.
Prediction: Sonego in 3
Sebastian Korda vs Otto Virtanen
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Sebastian Korda has made a solid if not spectacular start to the 2025 season and will be looking for another strong showing this week. The fast indoor conditions should also suit the hard-hitting Korda’s game. Otto Virtanen can be dangerous on fast courts himself but is going through a bad patch of form and given this looks like a tough assignment on paper, it is probably not going to be the moment he turns it around. Korda might have to work for his victory, but expect the American to advance.
