Scottish Open snooker 2024 LIVE RESULTS: Lei Peifan fights back to STUN Mark Allen and reach final – updates
Comeback king Lei sets up all-Chinese final
World No 84 Lei Peifan landed his biggest scalp of the tournament to set up a Scottish Open final few could have predicted.
Having KO’d two world champions on the way to the semi-finals despite often trailing, Lei grafted back from 5-2 down to stun World No 5 Mark Allen 6-5.
Now we have a final on Sunday between two Chinese 21-year-olds.
Lei had never reached a rankings quarter-final before this.
And despite his tender age he’s been off the pro tour TWICE.
Now all that will feel like a distant memory.
Allen took defeat well on the outside – with a hearty handshake and warm words to Lei.
But he must be gutted – wondering how he became so erratic, and indeed nervy, whereas Lei looked mentally strong throughout.
Latest score – Lei wins!
Allen took on a tough long red he knew would be vital.
And he missed.
Lei returned to make the frame safe in confident style – for a fantastic comeback win from 5-2 down.
Allen was red-hot favourite to win this match – and also the top tip to lift the Scottish Open crown.
RESULT: Mark Allen 5-6 Lei Peifan
Latest score – Lei nearly pots cue ball
Lei breathed a huge sign of relief when the cue ball came within inches of landing in the yellow pocket.
Had it gone down Allen would have had a look at a brilliant position to clear and win.
Instead it left Allen needing to conjure a safety shot – which he duly did.
