Earlier this week, Max Edwards was caught on video watching pornography in a classroom filled with students. As a result, he’s been placed on leave as the Miami-Dade School District investigates the incident, according to CBS Miami.

The clip allegedly shows Edwards watching videos on a desktop in the corner of a classroom. While the footage doesn’t show any students, we know at least one of them was in the same classroom, since it’s been confirmed that the video came from a student’s cell phone.

In a statement to CBS Miami, a spokesperson for the district said, “Miami-Dade Public Schools is disturbed by the allegation made regarding concerning behavior involving an employee at Miami Jackson Senior High School. The individual has been removed from the school site pending the outcome of an investigation.”

No criminal charges have been brought against Edwards at this time. Surprisingly many students have shown support for him: On Wednesday (Nov. 20), several students came to school chanting “Free Max,” according to WPLG.

One student told the local news outlet, “He’s a good coach. He respected us and believed in God and everything else.” Another student added, “As an athlete, he changed the whole team. The rumors need to stop — he’s a good person. Free that man.”

One person felt like the whole incident was misinterpreted, telling WPLG, “I feel like he was probably watching a movie…probably an ad…it’s all random.”

Before working at Miami Jackson Senior High School, Edwards was a coach at Miami Northwestern High School and led them to three state championships during his 10-year career at the school.
